Chanteenel McClendon, LISW

Thank you for visiting my website. As a therapist, my role is to provide non-judgmental support and help you address thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that impact your life. I specialize in using psychoanalytic methods to help patients understand the conflicts that bring them to therapy. Through our partnership, we will work together to explore and understand your feelings, rather than simply offering suggestions for behavior change. Psychoanalytic therapy recognizes the presence of unconscious defenses that protect us psychologically, even if they may cause distress in our lives. By identifying and becoming aware of these defenses, you can gain insight into your thoughts, emotions, and coping mechanisms, ultimately leading to a greater sense of control over your life.

ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE

Throughout my career, I have dedicated myself to providing psychotherapy services to individuals affected by anxiety, depression, stress, and trauma. My experience spans a wide range of settings and populations, including:

  • Working with children, parents, and families who have experienced distressing events. I have provided support and guidance to help them navigate through challenging circumstances and promote healing.

  • Collaborating with the Detroit Police Department to offer services to individuals, families, and community members impacted by tragedies such as homicide, sexual violence, and domestic abuse. I have worked closely with these individuals to address their psychological needs and support their recovery.

  • Offering comprehensive psychosocial support services to adult patients affected by mental health illnesses. Through therapy, I have assisted them in managing their symptoms, enhancing coping skills, and promoting overall well-being.

  • Providing individual psychotherapy to adult patients, addressing various emotional conflicts. I have created a safe and supportive space for individuals to explore their feelings, gain insight into their experiences, and work towards positive change.

With my diverse background and extensive experience, I am committed to helping individuals find healing, resilience, and growth. Together, we can navigate the challenges you face and create a path towards a healthier and more fulfilling life.

MY TRAINING

I am continuously enhancing my skills and knowledge through ongoing training in psychoanalysis at the Cleveland Psychoanalytic Center. This training allows me to deepen my understanding of psychoanalytic theory and techniques, ensuring that I provide the highest standard of care to my clients.

In addition to my specialized training in psychoanalysis, I hold a Master's Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University, with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. This comprehensive program equipped me with valuable insights and practical skills to effectively apply evidence-based therapeutic approaches.

Furthermore, I obtained my Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from the University of Detroit Mercy, which provided a solid foundation in understanding social systems, human behavior, and the principles of compassionate care.

By combining my formal education and ongoing training, I am able to offer a holistic and integrative approach to therapy, tailoring my interventions to meet the unique needs of each individual. I regularly engage in ongoing professional development, attend workshops and conferences, and participate in supervision and consultation to enhance my skills and expand my knowledge base. My commitment to staying abreast of new developments in the field ensures that I can offer the best possible care and achieve optimal outcomes for my clients.
